Obituary for Z. Alphonse "Al" Niestemski

Z.  Alphonse "Al"  Niestemski
Mr. Z. Alphonse “Al” Niestemski, age 93, of Oxford, beloved husband of the late Victoria (Magda) Niestemski, passed away on June 7, 2013 at Beacon Brook Health Center in Naugatuck.

He was born on August 14, 1919 and was the son of the late Zygmund and Florence (Ploski) Niestemski of Naugatuck. Al graduated from Naugatuck High School and worked for Chase Brass in Waterbury and later for the Homer D. Bronson Co. in Beacon Falls. A resident of Oxford for 72 years, he and his late wife, Victoria loved the spirit of community. He was very active in politics, having served as Democratic Town Chairperson for 25 years. He also served on the Board of Selectmen, Board of Finance Board of Education, the Ethics Committee, Justice of the Peace, the Elderly Commission and Board of Assessors, a job he loved, as he watched the town grow. He was a Sheriff for New Haven County for many years. Before his retirement, Al was an active member of the Oxford Center Fire Dept.

Al is survived by his devoted children, Joyce and Gerald (Anne), his grandchildren, Emily (Ryan) and Matthew (Meghan) and his sisters, Wanda Ploski and Theda Bosco and several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 12 at 9:15 a.m. at the Ralph E. Hull Funeral Home, 161 West Church Street, Seymour followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Oxford. Interment to follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck.
