My mother, Mrs. Emma Wolynec, was the Executive Vice President of the American Cancer Society, Vermont Division, for over 20 years during the 50's, 60's and 70's. As I grew up in Vermont, so often I would hear of Tom Hellyar and Mom's admiration of his devotion to the aims and efforts of ACS. They must have shared the same future for the Society, as I believe that they would renew their friendship as the Society would have their annual meetings, etc. etc. I also recall how pleased Mom was when I married and we settled in Connecticut. I believe she was sure that "some day", we would meet her friend, Tom. My husband and I just returned from a 6 week stay in Florida to read of Tom's death, and I know that Mom would have been happy that I could say a word or two to his family about their connection in such a worthwhile effort as helping to eradicate cancer.
